Jordan Packer of Utah will compete in the upcoming WorldSkills Competition 2022 Special Edition, presented by Samsung, on Oct. 17-20. The international welding competition will be held at the Lincoln Electric Welding Technology and Training Center in Cleveland.
2022 WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai
Throughout much of the past year, SkillsUSA was helping to train an elite group of competitors: five champions that made up our WorldSkills USA Team. The team was scheduled to compete in the 2022 WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai, China, in October. On May 31, however, the event was ultimately canceled by WorldSkills, who stated, “the current lockdowns in Shanghai and ongoing pandemic prevention and control restrictions in China make hosting the event not possible in 2022.”
While we all shared the initial disappointment in the cancellation of the WorldSkills Competition, the accomplishment of each of these individuals is theirs forever, and their place within the rich legacy of WorldSkills USA is secure. They have proven themselves through a rigorous and intense application process and, in doing so, have achieved a rare and distinguished honor.
